Being located in the DFW area, it was impossible to miss the story about a McDonalds in downtown Dallas letting their drive-thru permits expire back in December of 2023. The reason was their business licenses had expired, and they were not aware of it because their tracking and notifications were inadequate.
The drive-thru permit was originally issued when the restaurant was remodeled around 2000 with an option for automatic renewal every 10 years, though that process still required the property owner to file an application. In 2021, McDonald’s did not file on time, so the permit expired.
We can only imagine the lost revenue every 24 hours from a McDonald’s drive-thru not being accessible in a busy urban area. If they had engaged PermitPROS, this would not have happened!
Permits Are Moving Targets
McDonald’s had submitted its renewal application late after Dallas notified an engineer who hadn’t worked for the company in 10 years. Clearly the massive organization eventually discovered the missed permit renewal, but again, this would have never happened with PermitPROS at the helm or if our License Management Solution, LicensePROS, was running the show.
After coming out of the pandemic, operating in the red, this small operational hiccup, can turn into a big problem and the death knell for the location.
